John Thoutenhoofd [Outreach]

I am primarily responsible for the leadership of the Outreach Ministries. I have a passion to see people discover what it means to a Christ follower and share that good new with others. That means I want individuals to think more like Christ, feel more like Christ and act more like Christ.

BASIC STUFF:

My wife Heather and I moved here in in 2000. We were married in 1986 and have lived in a variety of places including Dallas, Regina, and Calgary. The first time I asked Heather out on a date she said she was too tired. (That is a story worth following up on). She has become an avid basketball fan (of our kids anyway). Our four children are growing up too fast (Rochelle, Justin, Sharece, and Mikaela).

I believe that Together is Better…always. I also know that together can be difficult. However, it is our oneness as group of believers that gives the strongest message that Jesus truly came from God.

BIRTHDAY: March 10, 1960

EDUCATION: B.S. in Physical Education, Two years at Briercrest bible College. Masters of Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary, and Masters of Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary.

INTERESTS AND FAVOURITES:

• Places: I enjoy hiking, camping, being in a gym with a basketball in hand, and I enjoy playing the piano.
• Music I like: a wide range including clean hip hop/rap which is hard to find, 60’s rock, Motown stuff, Michael Bublé, and especially theatrical pieces ranging from Shrek to Sister Act 2
• Reading: Theological: Short devotional nuggets and stories (I am giving hard core theology rest), Secular: magazines I pick up here and there to understand the voice of the world I live in. Devotional: Purpose Driven daily devotional. Bible along with my daily devotionals I am more of a deep study than casual in my Bible readings.
• How about TV: Usually whatever my son is watching: Smallsville, CSI, but definitely not Gilmore Girls.
• Sport Teams: Whatever team my kids are involved with. Other than that I am a poor fan!
• Movies: Again, what ever is in my son’s collection which usually ranges from Coaching Carter to Lord of the Rings.
• Hobbies: Basketball, Piano, Tim Hortons
• Dislikes: I have many but I usually don’t voice them. One would be lack of passion and lack of intentionality.
• Odd Facts: I have travelled to Korea, South America, and Europe. I have converted to drinking Tea instead of coffee.
• Significant Scripture: " John 17:20-23 (NIV) "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
