Clothes 2-U
Clothes 2-U is an amazing program organized by Ernie Jantzen. He along with his volunteers, collect used clothing, shoes, toys, books and other household items and then hold "free clothing sales" at various churches around the lower mainland for people in need and the less fortunate. Ernie felt there was a huge need here in Abbotsford and asked to hold a free sale here in our gym. Our location is great and we also had some of our own CHC members excited to get involved. It only made sense to open up our facilities and assist Ernie in helping our community.
On September 26th we had the privilege of joining Ernie Jantzen and his willing group of volunteers for the "Clothes 2-U Sale". They came Friday evening to set up all the tables. On Saturday morning before the doors to the gym opened there was already a long line of people in the parking lot waiting to get inside and start their "free shopping"
I was absolutely amazed to see how great the need actually was. About 45 min into the sale Ernie was already sending some of his helpers to get more clothes from his storage area across town. Our CHC gym was filled with people in need. As an added bonus, we handed out hotdogs, which for many people was their only meal of the day. We also needed to replenish our table of bibles. This was an opportunity to reach out to our neighbors in need.
How awesome it was to see our facilities being used to show compassion and love to everyone who came through. Although we are limited with the space of our church, we should all be encouraged by the ministries that are still going strong. We are planning on inviting Ernie and his volunteers back in the near future. It would be great to host this event twice a year.
