Helping Children Heal From the Hurt of Divorce

What is it?

DivorceCare for kids is a special group whose focus is helping children heal from the hurt of the separation and divorce of their parents. Kids can make friends with other kids who understand how they feel and the things they are going through.

Best of all, the kids will learn how God's love can strengthen them and help turn tears to hope and joy!

Activities:

We meet weekly in 13 week cycles and kids can start anytime. The evening includes:

  • games
  • crafts
  • activities
  • music
  • DVD dramas
  • snacks

Our goal is to create a fun atmosphere where kids feel comfortable and accepted. They look forward to each time their DC4K ‘family’ gets together.

Support:

DC4K is structured like a family environment, and children from the same family are kept together because they often look to each other for security during this time. The program runs simultaneously with the adult DivorceCare program.  We require parent(s) to attend the DivorceCare (adult program) while the children are at DC4K.  We offer both on the same night - DC4K (room 3013) and the adult program in room 3003/3004.

Content:

DC4K is nondenominational and features Biblical teaching to help children recover from the hurt of separation and divorce. Children of all faiths or those with no church connection are welcome.

We cover topics such as:

  • What’s Happening To My Family?
  • God Loves Children In All Kinds of Families
  • Facing My Anger
  • Journeying From Anger To Sadness
  • I Am Not Alone
  • God’s Plan For Me
  • Developing New Relationships
  • Developing Money Smarts
  • It’s Not My Fault
  • Telling My Parents How I Feel
