Capital Projects Committee Update

Building Repair

Repairs are well underway with the contractors working alongside a number of volunteers. The work is going well and it is estimated that over one third of the remedial work has now been completed. It is still too early in the repair process to provide an accurate date of completion, but the Capital Projects Committee has no reason at this stage to alter their original completion date of mid to late April. They are able to confirm at this point that the project remains on budget. We are currently replacing flooring (rugs), re-wiring the sound system, repairing damaged pews, cleaning the Worship Centre and other peripheral issues to the floor repair.

Insurance

The Committee has reached what they consider to be a very favorable settlement with the insurance providers. The cheques have all been received, and the settlement is finalized.

In order to have our volunteers involved in the repair work, we have had to approach our insurers to request an extension to our existing coverage and they have agreed to such an extension.

Interchange

The Committee has received a final drawing for the interchange and this varies only slightly from the drawing revealed at the community open house held at Central Heights before Christmas. Hawthorne will link directly to the traffic roundabout on the south side of the freeway and there will be a right in and right out on McCallum Road and our main parking lot. The new overpass has been situated a little further west than the original drawings. We understand that tree clearing will begin in March 2010 with construction commencing in April 2010. The work needs to be completed by March 2011 to meet the Federal Government's requirements. We have been informed that some initial clearing of the land will start very soon, and have been issued a Right to Construct notice that states that they will be operating on our land to do this.

Able to Volunteer?

Contact Julie Thiessen at the church office or just come over to the church after 8:30am any day (and before 2:00pm) and we will introduce you to those overseeing the work. If you have a tool belt, bring it along. The pace of the project is dictated by the number of volunteers we have.
