Our Core Values
These Core Values define our church and are non-negotiable characteristics reflecting the life of CHC. This is what we stand for; this is what we are all about; this is who we are.
The Bible Matters …the Bible is central to all instruction and practice. (Josh. 1:8; 2; Psalm 119:105,160; Rom. 10:17; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Heb,. 4:12; James 1:22; 2 Peter 1:19-21)
Being Fully Devoted To Christ Matters …full devotion to Christ and His cause is normal for every believer. (Matt.18:15-20; John 13:34-35; Rom. 12:16; 13:8; 14:13; 15:7, 14; 1 Cor.1:10; Eph. 4:2, 32; Col.3:5-17; 1 Thess.5:11; 2 Tim. 3:16; Heb. 10:24-25; James 4:11; 5:16; 1 Pet. 3:8)
Lifestyle Worship Matters …worship is the ultimate purpose of being, through which we reach out to God and provide a way for others to also find Him. (Psalm 150; Mark 13:20; John 4:23-24; I Cor.9:19-23; Eph. 5:19-20; I Peter 2:4-5, 9)
Praying Matters …prayer is the means by which we will seek God for direction and power. (Matt.17:21; Luke 6:12; Acts 6:1-4; Eph.3:13-21; Col. 1:9-12; Col. 4:2-3; 2 Thess.3:1-5; James 5:13-16)
The Lost Matter…introducing people to Jesus, and Discipling them to Christian maturity is our mandate. (Matt. 28:19-20; John 1:35-48; 10:10-11; Rom. 1:16-17; 2 Cor.5:17,21; Eph. 4:11-13; 1 Tim. 2:3-4; 1 John 5:11-13)
Being Relevant Matters …we are free to conduct all ministries in a way relevant to our contemporary society. (I Chron.12:32; I Cor.9:19-23; 10:33)
Leadership Matters …the church should be led by those spiritually gifted for leadership who have been discerned and affirmed by the membership. (Rom. 12:3-8; I Cor.12:12-28; I Tim. 3:1-10)
Small Groups Matter …community and caring happens best in the context of small groups. (Acts 2:42-47; 12:12; 20:20; Rom. 12:9-21; I Cor.12:12-26; 2 Cor.1:3-7)
Sharing One’s Faith Locally and Globally Matters …every believer should invest his/her time, talent, and finances to further the work of Missions at home and the world around us. (Mal. 3:10; Matt. 6:19-21; 25:14-30; Luke 16:10-12; I Cor.12:1-31; 2 Cor.8 & 9; Eph. 4:12; Eph. 2:10; I Peter 4:10)
Serving Matters …it honors God when we do all things to the best of our ability. (I Cor.14:12; 2 Cor.8:7; Eph. 6:5-8; Col. 3:23-24; Phil. 4:8, I Tim. 3:13; Titus 3:8)
Commitment Matters …membership is an important public declaration of commitment to the local church. (Rom. 12:5; I Cor.12:12-27; Gal. 6:1-2; Eph. 2:19,22; 5:21; Heb. 13:17; 10:24-25)
Marriage and the Christian Home Matters …we believe that God instituted marriage. Marriage is a sacred union between one man and one woman. Believers who marry should have a common Christian commitment; a believer should not marry an unbeliever. We believe that divorce, adultery and homosexuality constitute a violation of God’s intention for marriage. We do not condone same sex marriage or homosexual lifestyles. Christian parents should nurture their children through exemplary living, prayer, worship, instruction in God’s Word, and godly discipline. (Gen. 1;27-28; 2:18-24; Prov. 5:18-19; Mal. 2:13-16; Mt. 5:31-32; 19:4-9; I Cor. 7:10-11; 2 Cor. 6:14; Eph. 5:22-23; 6:4; Heb. 13:4; Rom 1:18-32)
The Sanctity of Human Life Matters …we believe that God is creator and giver of life, and highly values each person. Procedures designed to take human life are wrong. We oppose all attitudes which devalue human life, especially the defenseless lives of the unborn, disabled, poor, aging and dying. (Gen. 1:26-27, 2:7; Exod. 20:13; Job 31:15; Ps. 139:13-16; Amos 1-2; Matt. 6:25-27, 25:31-46; John 10:11)
The State Matters …we believe that God has instituted the state. Our chief concern and primary allegiance, however, is to Christ’s kingdom. We pray for our government, respect those in authority, pay taxes, obey all laws not in conflict with the Word of God, and witness against corruption and injustice in society. (Mt. 22:17-21; Acts 4:19; Rom. 13:1-7; I Tim. 2:1-6; I Pet. 2:13-14)
